Option 1 – The soothing nature of Green Venice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Head for Maillezais for a boat trip<\/strong> departing from the Embarcad\u00e8re de l’Abbaye, with the remains of the Abbey silhouetted against the blue Marais sky. Glide along slowly, greeted by pollarded ashes and poplars, to the silent rhythm of a pigouille or shovel push, depending on your guide’s choice. It will immerse you in the life of the Marais, its fauna, flora and lifestyles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way back, a bucolic picnic<\/strong> in the shade of the trees, on one of the tables provided. Or…. Why not have lunch on the waterside terrace of the bar-restaurant l’Echauguette<\/em>, just off the pier? The perfect place to relax and enjoy the region’s culinary specialities, or a simple salad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, a visit to the Abbey is a must. Its monk builders contributed to the development of the canals of the Marais Poitevin. Stroll, visit, climb the steps to the top of the tower and admire the vast landscape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Option 2 – The oxygenating nature of the Mervent forest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Put on your sneakers and hike <\/strong>one of the many trails in this 5,000-hectare forest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Picnic on the water’s edge, or lunch at the “Les trois cocottes<\/em>” restaurant. Its terrace overlooks the forest and lake. A breathtaking view!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Afternoon visit to the Natur’Zoo, to stay immersed in Nature. More than 350 animals bask in a shady, unspoilt natural setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, to round off this day in the heart of nature, a short trip to the Parc de Pierre Brune<\/strong>, just a stone’s throw away. Outdoor activities along the river for young and old alike<\/p>\n<\/div>
